College Physics Text

For the past 20 years, I have worked with Randy Knight and Stuart Field to create a leading text for the College Physics course.

Knight, Jones, Field College Physics, from Pearson, uses proven pedagogy to present concepts and applications of physics to living systems to engage students.

Each chapter of the text begins with a visual overview that spells out the key concepts of the chapter, and each chapter finishes is a summary that reviews the basic concepts and equations. This “bookending” of the chapters with a big picture view has proven very popular with students.

Most of the students who take the College Physics course are studying subjects that deal with the living world—biology, natural resources, physiology. To best engage these students, the book is full of examples and problems that illustrate the application of physics principles to the living world.

The end-of-chapter problems that students solve use real data from the real world. No more “A box of mass 20 kg slides down a ramp tipped at a 20% angle….” The problems use real physical situations with numbers from research papers and other trusted sources. After a semester solving such problems, students no longer ask, “When am I going to need to use physics?”
